A world class place for renewable energy
Gregory Barker MP, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, visited the Smith School yesterday (Thursday 14 June 2012) and gave a lecture at The Oxford Union. In his speech the Minister set out how the UK should not just be the place to deploy renewable technologies but build and design them as well - giving the UK unique IP and trade opportunities with other countries.
Mr Barker went on to say that with the extremely strong science and engineering base in the UK, developed over the past several decades, this made it the perfect location for the development of new low carbon technologies, particularly as we had the capacity to generate sizable renewable energy with the geography of the UK.
