We are delighted to announce that Professor Mette Morsing has been appointed Interim Dean of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and that Professor Sam Fankhauser has accepted the role of Interim Director of the Smith School.

Sam Fankhauser is Professor of Climate Change Economics and Policy at the University of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, and Research Director of Oxford Net Zero.

Professor Fankhauser works at the intersection of research and public policy, and was named one of Apolitical's '100 most influential people in climate policy' for his work on green growth. He is interested in the policy interventions and governance arrangements that are needed for a smooth transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions and climate-compatible growth. He has also worked on climate change adaptation and sustainable growth in developing countries.

Before moving to Oxford, Professor Fankhauser was Director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics. He was an inaugural member of the UK Climate Change Committee and its Adaptation Sub-Committee, and he served as a non-executive Director of CDC Group, the UK's development finance institution.

"The Smith School occupies a unique position in the research landscape with its strong focus on enterprise and the environment, and it is great to see this recognised in Professor Morsing’s appointment at Oxford Saïd," says Professor Fankhauser. "I look forward to leading the School over the coming year.

Mette Morsing is Professor of Business Sustainability at the University of Oxford. Since 2023 she spearheaded the Oxford Smith School’s core mission: driving the global green transition forward while transforming economies and governance so people and nature thrive together.

Her role at Oxford Saïd will draw on her considerable experience in business education, including a four-year leadership role at the United Nation’s largest initiative for global business school education towards the UN SDGs, The LEGO Foundation, Porsche Sustainability Council, Copenhagen Business School Executive Board (Denmark), and International Advisory Board roles at Erasmus Rotterdam School of Management (The Netherlands), IPADE Business School (Mexico), and RRBM Research for Responsible Research in Business (USA).

“I look forward to working with colleagues and students on the Saïd Business School’s mission of impact from within,” says Professor Morsing. “It is a privilege to serve the Business School and the wider University of Oxford in responsible business education.”
