Regeneration lab

Overview

The Oxford Regeneration Lab is a collaborative programme of research and business engagement to build the knowledge and practices necessary for a regenerative economy.

Imagine a future where people and our planet are thriving. Everyone has access to renewable energy, new technologies have a positive environmental footprint, and our economy and cultures support equal, just, and diverse lives and livelihoods.

This is possible, but it requires the transformation of our current economic model. This system has delivered growth and innovation, but it is no longer working for people, businesses or the planet. We need a regenerative economy.

Our Lab includes and goes beyond a circular economy, which aims to stop our linear and wasteful economy, to an economic approach which aims to add positive value to the environment and society at large. Current conceptions of sustainability are often limited by 'do no harm' thinking. A regenerative perspective contributes positively to people and our planet.

Our work

Inspired by the work of leaders around the world - from business, academia, government, social movements, indigenous communities - we believe this is a moment to weave together a clear vision of the Net Positive world we want to live in - and to support people to make the decisions and take the actions needed to make this vision a reality.

A regenerative economy is:

  • Climate positive – repairs and revives our planet
  • Nature positive – creates more biodiversity for the future
  • Socially positive – enables inclusion and equality within and between societies
  • Economically positive – strengthens economic equality and justice
