Smith School MSc graduate Lucy Lyons listed in Forbes 30 under 30

Estimated reading time: 2 Minutes

Lucy Lyons, a graduate of the Oxford Smith School’s MSc in Sustainability, Enterprise and the Environment, is featured in this year’s coveted Forbes 30 under 30 list, in the technology category.

Lyons is CEO of Kestrix, a company she co-founded with fellow Oxford alum Matt Goodridge in 2022. The start-up uses drones and heat cameras to assess the insulation needs of buildings, gathering data that is used to provide energy efficiency surveys and retro fitting guidance to property managers. The company has mapped over 1000 buildings since it was founded.

“I stand on the shoulders of giants,” said Lyons. “This is as much a recognition of my work as it is of my co-founder Matt Goodridge's leadership, and the entire stellar Kestrix team who are working at breakneck pace to make this big dream of mapping heat loss in every building – and the retrofit revolution – a reality.”

In their profile of Lyons, Forbes wrote that Lyons has “secured contracts with major UK housing providers and raised over $1.5 million in funding."

Lyons told the Smith School in 2023 that “there's not enough attention going towards solutions that already exist, like insulation. Properly insulating buildings is something we should be putting front and centre.  That’s where I believe Kestrix can create real change.”

Forbes 30 under 30 is an annually updated list of high achieving people under the age of 30. Each year, Forbes editors select 30 winners across 20 categories. Lyons is the second Smith School MSc alum to be listed. Last year, Claudia Herbert Colfer was named in the energy category.

Laurence Wainwright, Director of the Oxford MSc in Sustainability, Enterprise and the Environment, commented: “My heart felt congratulations to Lucy Lyons on this fantastic achievement. Equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to go out into the world and lead impactful change is what this course is all about. Lucy has done us proud, and we look forward to seeing how her journey with Kestrix continues to unfold.”
